What occurred on May 31, 2014 is surely enough to make Benedict Arnold roll over in his grave. The release of five members of one the most notorious terrorist organizations in existence today, ( the Taliban) is traitorous and subversive. Oh but wait. The Taliban located in Afghanistan is not a designated FTO ( Foreign Terrorist Organization) according to the United States Dept. of State (http://www.state.gov/j/ct/rls/other/des/123085.htm)
The Pakistan Taliban (aka Tehrik-e Taliban Pakistan) and the Haqqani Network(who had Bergdahl) both are. So technically we didn’t “negotiate” with terrorists, so says Chuck Hagel and Susan Rice.
On May 31 2014, Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl was traded for 5 deadly Taliban Gitmo detainees. What a deal, a soldier that was being held for 5 years after being captured by the Taliban is finally on his long road back to America. Sounds so warm and fuzzy.
The problem with this, is this soldier intentionally walked out of his base, knowing full well what he was doing, even asking a superior officer ” If I were to leave the base, would it cause problems if I took my sensitive equipment? With the answer being yes, he instead packed up water, a knife, his digital camera, and his diary and walked off post.
Of course he was captured by the Taliban. How else did he think the fairy tale would end? So fast forward to today, June 2 2014. The main stream media is rah rahing the return of its Idaho son. Roll out the carpet, Bowe is home.
According to the hospital where Bergdahl is under going “dietary nutrition” assistance, Bowe is apparently having a difficult time understanding English. He speaks fluent Pashto, which he started learning prior to his deployment. According to one of his comrades, he spent more time with the locals then he did his own platoon.
This is a soldier that clearly was disillusioned by the Army, and the country he was serving. In an email to his parents, he writes “The system is wrong. I am ashamed to be an American, the title of US soldier is just the lie of fools.” in the final paragraph he writes ” “I am sorry for everything,” he wrote. “The horror that is america is disgusting.” Even Bergdahls father Robert seems not happy with America. In a tweet that has since disappeared, he says this:
Like father like son.
So how is it this administration has allowed the Taliban to dictate not only the release of 5 detainees, but exactly who they wanted released. That isn’t negotiating. That is treason.
5 years is a long time to be held captive. 5 years is long enough for the Stockholm syndrome to set in. Within those 5 years, a Taliban spokesman states Bergdahl taught his handlers how to play badminton and they would even celebrate Christian holidays. Not exactly a “prisoner” lifestyle. No one will really know the effects of being a prisoner with such a violent, vile group. Did Bergdahl embrace the ideology of a group that is so experienced and eager to perform their dawa, no matter the cost, or Is Bergdahl returning to a country he loves and wants to protect? Yes Bowe Bergdahl is coming home to America…but along with him, so is the Taliban.
